building trustPeople buy your services and products because they have a level of trust with you. Maybe not you personally, but the brand. What swings you to put your money down with one company versus another is that trust.

I had a conversation with my cousin yesterday about his online purchases from a new company. His his biggest concern was that after ordering, the product ¬†would never arrive. Well, the truth is, sometimes orders don’t get delivered. Scams exist. Our challenge is to build the confidence in customers.

The same exists with brick and mortar stores and services. I was talking with my brother about the life of a real estate agent. Why would you choose one agent over another? Why would you choose one contractor over another? Why buy a car from one dealer vs another. Trust. 

So what’s the key? Building positive relationships with others. Get out to where people are. Get to know them. Volunteer for programs in your town. People will ask what you do. They’ll get to know you. They’ll start connecting with you. When they have a need for your product or services they’ll come to you and they’ll tell their friends about you.

Facebook is great, Twitter is wonderful, LinkedIn can work for you. But use them to show people who you are. Let them learn about you just like you’re standing next to them talking. Be upfront and honest with them. People want to hire people, not companies. People want to buy from people not buildings.

So, get out, get known, build trust.
